Director of Trade Marketing
Department: Sales - Trade Marketing
Location: San Leandro, CA
Reporting Relationship: Vice President of Sales

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time

Summary

The Director of Trade Marketing leads a multi functional team that is responsible for developing and implementing strategies designed to deliver top and bottom line as well as capability objectives for the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. The Trade Marketing Team interfaces externally with Field Sales as well as with HQ functional teams including Marketing, Production Planning, Procurement and Finance to ensure that business objectives are achieved.
 
The Director is a vital member of the Ghirardelli Sales Leadership team which includes all staff of the VP of Sales and which sets direction and leads execution for the entire sales organization. The Director is a results oriented leader and a strategic thinker who works well with others.
 

Responsibilities

1)      Annual Business Plan
  • Create Branded Sales Priorities and MAPS (Merchandising, Assortment, Pricing and Shelving)
  • Work with Marketing to develop and implement key selling initiatives
  • Lead the net sales and trade spend budgeting process
  • Develop and lead the annual account planning process
  • Develop and lead National Sales Meetings
2)      Sales Forecasting Process
  • Forecast customer demand to enable the highest possible level of customer service while meeting company inventory and product loss objectives
  • Lead the forecasting process for the Sales Organization
  • Work with the Cross Functional team to gain a monthly forecast consensus
3)      Category Management
  • Develop Category Management relationships at key customers
  • Provide category insights to the Sales Organization
  • Deliver tools to enhance sales capabilities
4)      Trade Funds Management
  • Manage reporting and tracking for trade funds, including deduction management
  • Manage deployment and tracking of incremental HQ funds
  • Point person for GPS (Ghirardelli Planning System)
5)      Be a Leader Within the Sales Organization and Company
  • Effectively organize, staff, train, direct and lead the Trade Marketing Team
  • Demonstrate passion, commitment and integrity in all activities
  • Treat confidential information as such
  • Take both a top-line and bottom-line perspective on all issues
  • Collaborate effectively across functions
6)      Sell, live, demonstrate and protect the premium-ness of our products
  • Build the Ghirardelli Brand Equity by demonstrating quality in everything you do

Skills Required

·        Demonstrated leadership and development of direct reports
·        Strong oral and written communication skills
·        Experience with forecasting software and promotional planning/deduction management systems or proven experience with financial management and creating financial recommendations utilizing basic ROI analysis
·        High level of follow-up, availability and responsiveness to internal and external partners
·        Good organizational and time management skills
·        Strong analytical and computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and ability to utilize search and navigate on the Internet.)
·        Exhibit high level of focus and account penetration using sophisticated analysis and presentation skills
·        Demonstrated ability in public speaking and making effective customer presentations
·        Extensive knowledge and experience with channel and/or customers is highly desired
·        Prior direct account management preferred

Education and Experience

·        BA Degree
·        MBA desired
·        8 to 10 years of CPG selling experience with an emphasis on increasing levels or responsibilities

Working Conditions

·        Travel on average 2-3 nights per week, but up to 4 nights in a week
  • Ability to travel to various locations across the country or local travel to meetings
  • Office out of home or in Corporate office
  • Rare to Occasional ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
